LET THE FUCKING FREAKS PUT IT TOGETHER THEMSELVES

Thats not your job

take a good look at yourself as you really are

EQUIPMENT AS THOUGHT

in movies the turnaround time of information is large.

In video it is instant.

commercial cinema is involved with large group viewings

video is small group situation

cine is edited at a time removed from the real time processes of life

video is edited and mixed in real time as the experience occurs

DISTRIBUTION AS A SOCIAL STRUCTURE

Channel it all through one point

Thats censorship i mean a few people deciding which few films will he screened simultaneously everywhere major distribution companies are censors, I mean mindfuckers, they tell everyone what to think AND DONT TALK BACK CAUSE THERES NO ONE TO HEAR broadcast television is the same trip. It is also an information filter the only reason that participation is increased is to decentralise distribution set up enough centres so that MOST of the material produced is shown

EQUIPMENT DISTRIBUTION & SOCIAL CHANG

Set up many distribution centres, reduce turnaround time and you have increased participation. You have laso changed the TYPE of information spread. There is now more specific and more varied information. The size of viewing and making units can be reduced to a size where the community can make decisions on content and the structure of materialE

HERE'S HOW TO DO IT

Get the equipment. If it's video it's probably at your local university or college. Liberate it under the pretext of providing a siuueru news service through the student union or try the creative art pitch. If it's cinema, buy borrow or steal 8mm equipment. Forget heavy expensive equipment. What is needed is small household equipment, cameras, which compete with washing machines for popularity.

GET THE PARTICIPATION

Television is a random small group vicarious open-ended experience. Place screens where there is a maximum flow of people and structure material so that small segments make sense. The information may be taken in several passes or use on playback videotape recorder and many screens for small group viewing situations.

Cinema is a time slotted highly structured large group viewing situation. It is a uniform repeatable event rather than a process. Work out implications of that yourself. Solve the problem your own way. Use 8mm film. Everyone is into that. Good.

Use videotape. That allows instant viewing of material shot. Anew generation of portable videotape recorders allows rewind and replay through eyepiece of camera or a small battery powered set. That's instant editing. People involved in front of the camera can see results and so participate in editing decisions. This breaks down roles of editor, creator, beholder, cameraman, actor, involves everyone. Increases participation.

YOU DON'T OWN ANYTHING. PASS THAT CAMERA AROUND. ART-FART. THERE ARE NO PRODUCERS OR CONSUMERS. JUST PEOPLE.

CINEMA IS A TOOL OF THE NATION STATE

epical mythical archetypical it produces images of "life" which are common denominator material

it fusesindividuals into a group conciousness

it is consumption otientated

it is passive non interactive

it is non alterable

it is cultural chauvanism on the part of a few filmmakers who are chosen by the culture barons for patronage.

it takes the money of the mass and collects for a few pockets

it is mindfuck

not mentioning the underground of course

break

lets talk about communications

there is no interaction or participation by audiences in conventional cinemathere have been some attempts by filmmakers (u/g and NFB of Canada)

to integrate filmmaking into the day to day processes of individual and group

thought and action

what we are into is process not product

what we want is active participation in making not passive viewing

maximise the amount of information spread

minimise the time it takes

break down the information into small bits

let as many people into the process as possible
